Hyderabad: A screenshot of a tweet purportedly tweeted by the British Royal family’s official handle calling Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor a “flop actress” is doing the rounds on social media. The tweet also mocks her dancing which she reportedly performed at King Charles III’s coronation.

The tweet reads, “Never had we ever imagined that India would take revenge on our barbaric colonial rule for over 200 years in such a tortuous way. It was highly distressing to witness a flop actress doing a graceless mujra on an opera song, that too on the occasion of King Charles’s coronation.”

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the viral tweet is fabricated.

The viral screenshot shows that the tweet was from 1 May 2023. We checked the British Royal family’s official Twitter handle but did not find any such tweet.

According to the website of the Royal family, the coronation of the King and the Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on 6 May.

On 29 April, The Indian Express reported that Sonam Kapoor had been invited to deliver an exclusive spoken word piece on 7 May at the highly-anticipated Coronation Concert of King Charles III. She will share the stage with global icons such as Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.

From this, we conclude that the viral tweet is fabricated and the claim is false.
