FIFA World Cup: Woman's indecent celebration is from Mexico, not Qatar

Hyderabad: Social Media users are sharing a video of a woman baring her chest in a stadium, suggesting it shows a football fan celebrating at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

A Twitter user shared the video and wrote, "Oh oh. This World Cup is not going to go well for Qatar." (Translated)

At the time of writing this article, the video was viewed over two lakh seventy-five thousand times.

Fact Check

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search of the video and found the same video tweeted on 14 October 2022. The tweet said that the video from a match between football clubs Tigres UANL and C.F. Pachuca in University Stadium, a football stadium on the campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in San Nicolás de Los Garza, Nuevo León, Mexico.

Taking a cue from this, we ran a keyword search and found a longer version of the same video used in an article published by The Sun on 19 October 2022. According to the article, the woman in the video goes by the name Carla Garza. She had caused quite a stir in the stadium by flashing her breast while celebrating a goal by Tigres UANL against C.F Pachuca.

According to New York Post, Garza, a Mexican soccer fan, celebrated by lifting her shirt when the Tigers, the home team, scored a goal in the final minutes of the second half. Though Garza has become an internet sensation and has been enjoying her newfound fame, however, she has been banned from the University Stadium following her indecent act.

From this, it is evident that the video is from a football match played in Mexico. Hence, the claim that the incident occurred during the FIFA World Cup football match in Qatar is misleading.
