Hyderabad: A video of the Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra is being shared with the claim that Rahul Gandhi got his shoelace tied by former Union Minister Jitendra Singh.

Amit Malviya, In-charge of BJP's National Information and Technology Department, tweeted the video and wrote: "Former union minister Bhanwar Jitendra Singh goes down on his knee to tie Rahul Gandhi's shoelace. Other BJP functionaries, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and Rohit Chahal, also shared the video claiming the same. (Click here and here to see archived posts.)

Republic TV and Free Press Journal also reported that former Union Minister Jitendra Singh tied Rahul Gandhi's shoelace during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Fact Check

NewsMeter scanned through the comments on Malviya's post and came across a tweet from Prashant Pratap, National Media Coordinator of the Congress Party. He said that Jitendra Singh was trying to tie his shoelace and posted two photos that showed his lace untied.

Supriya Shrinate, Chairperson of social media and digital platforms of Congress called out the fake claim. She tweeted a video and an image that showed Jitendra Singh tying his shoelace during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Jitendra Singh also tweeted an image that showed him tying his shoelace. He said that the BJP is panicked by the tremendous success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and they have resorted to lying.

He also called out Amit Malviya and said that the tweet is a "complete lie and defamatory." He was tying his shoelace after being pointed out by Rahul Gandhi. He warned Amit Malviya of legal action if he did not delete the tweet.

Jitendra Singh gave photo evidence and denied tying the shoelace of Rahul Gandhi. Hence, we conclude that the claim by Amit Malviya and other BJP functionaries is false.
