Hyderabad: A video circulating on social media shows a woman acting suspiciously in the kitchen. With a utensil in hand, she closes the door, lifts her kurta, goes behind the fridge and soon comes back to return the utensil on the counter before wiping her hands with a cloth.

Several social media users are sharing the video claiming that it shows a Muslim woman named Rubina Khatoon, who allegedly posed as ‘Reena’ while working as a house help, caught mixing urine into the food.

A Facebook user shared the video and wrote, “A maid, named Rubina Khatoon but posing as Reena, has been cooking for a household for eight years. She has been mixing urine into the food and feeding it to the family. When the family fell ill, tests revealed traces of urine. The lady of the house grew suspicious and secretly installed a camera which showed the truth. Khatoon was adding her urine to the food and drinks. Hindus, thoroughly verify before allowing anyone into your home or you may end up eating food that’s been spat on or urinated upon.” (Translated from Hindi)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The woman in the video is not a Muslim.

Inspector Preeti from the Crossing Republic police station of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad confirmed to NewsMeter that Reena is from the Hindu community.

We obtained a copy of the FIR, which revealed that the complaint was lodged by Rupam, wife of Gautam Kumar. According to the FIR, Reena, wife of Pramod Kumar, a resident of Shantinagar in Ghaziabad, had been cooking for Rupam’s household for the past eight years. On October 14, 2024, Rupam, through mobile camera footage, caught Reena urinating into a utensil and using it to prepare rotis. The complaint further noted that Rupam’s family had been suffering from liver disease for several months, raising suspicions that the contamination had been going on for some time.

An NDTV report published on October 16 stated that 32-year-old Reena, who was working as a house help for a real estate businessman in Ghaziabad for the past eight years, was arrested for allegedly mixing urine into the dough used to make rotis.

ANI also shared the video of the arrest. “A woman, identified by the police as Reena, was arrested by the Crossings Republic PS team for allegedly mixing urine to make flour dough at a flat in a residential society in Ghaziabad,” read the post.

Therefore, based on the FIR and inspector Preeti’s statement, we conclude that the woman caught mixing urine into food is not a Muslim. This claim is false.
