Fact Check
NewsMeter reached out to Gouri Prashanth, SHO of Petbasheerabad police station. He rubbished the claim of any communal angle.
We have also accessed a press note released by the Petbasheerabad police, according to which the deceased, Devarakonda Harish, was in love with a girl for five months. Deendhayal, the girl’s brother, had warned Harish and had asked him to stay away from her. On 22 February, the couple eloped to get married. On 1 March, Harish was stabbed to death by Deendhayal and his associates.
The police registered a case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested eleven accused—Deendhayal, Trimukhe Naresh, Polacheruvu Venkatesh Goud, Kalibhavaniwale Rohith Singh, Band Venkat, Gaddam Akshay Kumar, Parwary Aniketh, Koyalkar Manish, Bure Sainath, Mathangi Rajendra Kumar and Gouti Navanith.
The Indian Express and The Hindu reported the murder. Both reports said the prime suspect in the murder is the brother of the girl and the accused and deceased are from the same community.
Hence, we conclude that the claim that Harish was killed by his wife’s Muslim family is false.
