ANI quoting Chikkadpally Inspector tweeted, "There was no Christian-Hindu angle, neighbours had some issues. Case filed against woman kicking Diyas; further, probe on."

India Today said the incident took place at Archana Apartments on Golkonda Cross Road in Hyderabad's Chikapally area. Chikkadpally inspector, N.Sanjay Kumar, speaking to India Today said: "The incident took place on Monday evening, where a Hindu family had decorated the common area with muggu[rangoli] on the occasion of Diwali. Residents of the opposite flat who were Christians objected to the rangoli, questioning how the common area could be used in such a way."

He further said: "Apart from that, there were previous issues related to their dog as well. The incident of objection to rangoli came to light on Tuesday. We have registered a case against the family who objected to it. Further investigation is underway."

Update: Hyderabad city police responding to a Twitter user, who shared the video, said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 295, 295-A, 509, 355, 506 and 34 of the Indian penal code.

Chikkadpally police station, SHO, N. Sanjay Kumar told NewsMeter that there is no communal angle in the incident, and four accused—the lady seen in the video kicking Diya, his husband and their two sons—have been taken under police custody for further investigation.
