Fact Check: Image of Spanish actress misrepresented as Rahul Gandhi's wife

An image has been circulating on social media showing a woman posing with the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, insinuating that the Congress leader is lying about being unmarried.

The text on the Facebook post implied that the image shows Rahul Gandhi and his ‘secret Colombian wife’, who have two children living in London, and this information has come to light in a WikiLeaks investigation. (Archive)

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The image shows Rahul Gandhi with Nathalia Ramos, a Spanish actress.

Upon conducting a reverse image search, we came across a report by News 18 published on September 21, 2017, titled ‘Rahul Gandhi’s Pic With Spanish Actress Creates Flutter on Social Media.’

According to the report, Gandhi met Spanish-Australian actor Nathalia Ramos at a gathering during his two-week tour in the US in 2017.

Ramos also posted the same image on her Instagram account on September 15, 2017. In the caption, she described Gandhi as ‘eloquent and insightful’.

We searched if any WikiLeaks investigation revealed Rahul Gandhi’s alleged secret wife and children, but found no such report on the organisation’s website. Also, no media reports corroborate this claim.

We also checked Rahul Gandhi’s poll affidavit submitted from the Wayanad and Raebareli constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and found the spouse section was marked ‘Not Applicable.’

Hence, we conclude that the image does not show Rahul Gandhi with his ‘secret wife’. The claim is false.
