Hyderabad: An image of prime minister Narendra Modi reportedly featuring on the cover of India Today magazine of August 2023 edition is viral on social media.

The background of the cover shows various images depicting the ongoing violence in Manipur. The magazine is titled ‘Shameful Blunders’, and the subtitle below it reads, “Inept state leadership and delayed action by the centre cause mayhem in the state. What can be done”

Former cricketer and TMC leader Kirti Azad shared the image using the hashtag #NeverVoteBJP.

NewsMeter found that the magazine’s cover image has been digitally manipulated by replacing Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh’s photograph with that of PM Modi.

We looked for the August edition of the India Today magazine on its website and found that the original cover features Manipur CM N Biren Singh.

On August 2, India Today, on its official X handle, clarified that the cover page featuring PM Modi is morphed and warned of legal action against those spreading the fake image.

Hence, we conclude that the India Today magazine’s cover page on Manipur featuring PM Modi is morphed.
