The defeat of the Indian cricket team in the World Cup final against Australia after successive 10 wins in the tournament has been heart-shattering for players and fans alike.

Now, two videos of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli are doing the rounds on social media. Users claim that both are expressing their feelings about the match.

A Facebook user shared the video of Rohit Sharma with the caption, “Emotional Rohit Sharma Badly Crying on Live Video Call after India Loss World Cup Final vs Aus.”

(Source: Facebook)

Sharma could be heard saying, in the viral clip, “Everyone thought we would do well. I know there were moments from the first match to the last match when it looked like we were going to win. We had eleven players in form, and everything was fine. But winning the World Cup by defeating different teams is not so easy. Winning the World Cup is a different kind of joy. We won a lot of bilateral series. But winning the World Cup doubles the confidence. Even if you lose, you go down that much. That is why we are so emotionally involved with the World Cup. The team has made some mistakes.”

Another Facebook user shared the video of Virat Kohli with the caption, “Virat Kohli Say Sorry And Send Emotional Message For Indian Fans After Lost World Cup final Vs Aus.”

In this video, Virat Kohli expresses regret and apologises for not living up to the expectations of the fans.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found both the videos are old and are not related to the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2023.

Upon a reverse image search of the keyframes of Sharma’s video, we found a similar video on X, posted by the official handle of Chennai Super Kings on May 14, 2020.

“#Hitman @ImRo45 and #ChinnaThala @ImRaina pick a combined MI-CSK eleven where the water boys and assistant coaches are as legendary as it gets!” read the caption.

Taking this cue, we ran a relevant keyword search and found an extended version of the video published by the verified channel of Sportskeeda Cricket on May 12, 2020, titled “Rohit Sharma live Instagram chat with Raina.”

The viral clip appears after 22 minutes into this video.

Similarly, we performed a reverse image search of the keyframes of Kohli’s video and found it posted on his X handle on May 24, 2018. Kohli in the video is apologising to fans after Royal Challengers Bangalore's exit from 2018's Indian Premier League.

“I really believe in the concept of, “you either win or you learn”. We fought hard and gave it our all but one thing is for sure, next season we definitely will bounce back stronger than ever with our learnings from this season,” read the caption.

The Indian Express had also reported after RCB finished in the 6th position with just 12 points in 14 games and failed to make it through the playoffs, Kohli had apologised to fans of the franchise for the teams' poor performance in the season.

Hence, we conclude that the viral videos are old and are being falsely linked to the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2023.
