Hyderabad: Social media users are claiming that the government of India introduced a Universal pass cum certificate for fully vaccinated citizens.

Users said that it can be used in public transport, at Offices, Malls, Airports, and Railway Stations, etc. The message also contained a link and it asked people to register for the pass.

Fact Check:

The claim that the Government of India has introduced the issue of a Universal pass cum certificate for fully vaccinated citizens is absolutely false. It is an initiative taken by the government of Maharashtra.

Firstly, News Meter clicked on the link and it led to a website that contained the logo of the Maharashtra Government. It gives a clear indication that the Maharashtra Government has taken this initiative and the Centre has no role in it.

The website also had an option of Marathi language besides English.

Secondly, we found an article by Oneindia Website which stated: "The Maharashtra government on Thursday launched an online facility to enable citizens who have completed 14 days after the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to obtain passes to travel in suburban trains in Mumbai from August 15."

The article by Oneindia clearly states that the Maharashtra government has launched the pass for citizens who completed a second dose of vaccination. "Citizens can obtain travel passes from http://epassmsdma.mahait.org, a website developed by the state government," it said.

India Today quoting Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said: "A 'Universal Travel Pass' system has been developed to make it possible for citizens to obtain an e-pass conveniently and smoothly."

The weblink ā€“ https://epassmsdma.mahait.org ā€“ has been developed by the Maharashtra government and is now functional on all web browsers."

According to an article by the Times now news, "The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that only fully vaccinated people can travel in the suburban train network after registering on the website. Commuters can avail the online e-pass facility at http://epassmsdma.mahait.org."

Conclusion: Hence the claim that the Government of India has introduced a universal pass cum certificate for fully vaccinated citizens is absolutely false. It is an initiative of the Maharashtra government.
