Is Elon Musk planning to acquire Meta soon?

Hyderabad: A Facebook reel claims that Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter and CEO of Tesla, has plans to acquire Meta and Instagram in the near future.

In the viral video, Elon Musk can be heard saying, "I predict that I will buy tomorrow the entire Meta company! Facebook and Instagram will be mine too."

NewsMeter ran a reverse image search of the keyframes of the viral video and found the extended version of the viral clip where Elon Musk can be seen having the purported conversation at a TED talk on 14 April 2022.

In his conversation with TED head Chris Anderson, Elon Musk did not present any future plans to acquire Meta or Instagram.

Moreover, the description of the video reads, "In this unedited conversation with head of TED Chris Anderson, Elon Musk—the head of Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink and The Boring Company—digs into the recent news around his bid to purchase Twitter and gets honest about the biggest regret of his career, how his brain works, the future he envisions for the world and a lot more."

We also could not find any news reports about Musk's plans to buy Meta and Instagram. If he had announced any such plans, it would definitely have caught the media's attention.

Hence, the claim is false. Elon Musk has not announced his intention to acquire Meta and Instagram.
