The claim comes after the PopocatƩpetl volcano, which is roughly 70 km southeast of Mexico City, saw an upsurge in gas, smoke, and incandescent rock since late last week. This prompted officials to close down schools and parks, conduct safety drills, and warn millions of residents in the area around the volcano to prepare for possible evacuations.
