Hyderabad: An image of the vehicle with RAM written on its dashboard is doing rounds on social media with the claim that the USA has launched a vehicle in the name of the Hindu deity, Lord Ram.
Several Facebook users shared the image making the claim.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the vehicle in the image is a pickup truck manufactured under the ‘RAM’ brand by Stellantis — a multinational automobile manufacturing corporation.
We ran a relevant keyword search and came across the website of Stellantis. According to it, Ram Truck was launched in 2009 as a stand-alone division and has steadily emerged as an industry leader with a full lineup of award-winning trucks. It further says that Ram continues to invest in its hardworking products, infusing them with great looks, refined interiors and features that further enhance capabilities.
The brand Stellantis is a constellation of 14 iconic automotive brands such as Dodge, Jeep, FIAT etc. It has two mobility arms that are about making connections and offering innovative solutions that are transforming how people move.
Further, we came across a report by Motor Biscuit. It said Ram refers to the male longhorn sheep. It has origins in a unique technology invented by a Mopar drag race team, in the 1950s.
According to CAR US News, RAM is the best truck brand winner. It said, “Ram is one of the brands that comprise Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (formerly FCA, now Stellantis), along with Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat. Ram is an American truck company that used to be a model name for Dodge trucks. Today, Ram is its own brand, exclusively making light- and heavy-duty trucks, while Dodge produces cars and SUVs. Vehicles from Ford, GMC, and Chevrolet all compete with Ram trucks.”
Hence, we conclude that the American truck RAM has not been named after the Hindu deity. The claim is false.
