Fact Check: Kareena Kapoor doesn’t have X account; viral hateful tweet is fake

Hyderabad: Several social media users are sharing a screenshot of a hateful tweet, allegedly tweeted by Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan.
The viral tweet reads, “People who spread hatred in the country should be beaten with lumps of sand. (Translated from Hindi)”

NewsMeter found that the tweet is from a fake X account.
We started our investigation by trying to see if Kareena Kapoor Khan has an account on X. We could not find any.
We found a Times of India report, published on August 10, 2022, where the actor said that she doesn’t prefer Twitter (now X) because of ‘how every other day, celebrities are trolled online.’
“That’s why I’m not on Twitter. I feel like it’s for people who just want to keep venting and I don't have time for that,” the report quoted her.
Hence, it is clear that Kareena doesn’t have an account on X and the tweet is from a fake account.
The microblogging site X is filled with various paid accounts and fan pages of celebrities.
The X handle that tweeted the fake tweet is @Karina_Kapoor__. On searching for the username on X, we found that the Twitter handle is a parody account made in the name of the actor. We found the viral tweet on the account was tweeted on July 31, 2023.
Hence, it is evident that the hateful tweet is not by Kareena. She doesn’t have an account on X.
