`Kaun banega mukha mantri: Viral survey about UP polls is five year old

HYDERABAD: A screenshot of the 'Hindi Khabar' survey on UP polls is viral on social media. The newspaper quoting a survey said 42 percent of people want Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati to be the next Chief Minister of UP.

Netizens are sharing the screenshot with the hashtag #22_में_बसपा indicating that this survey was recently conducted to understand people's preferences.



FACT CHECK:

The survey is not linked to Uttar Pradesh polls.

NewsMeter found the same screenshot posted on Facebook from October 2016. According to the information given in the post, this survey was done for the 2017 elections.

NewsMeter searched on the Facebook page of Hindi Khabar and found the same post uploaded on October 20, 2016. According to the post, Mayawati was the most preferred CM candidate in 2017.

The title of the report by Hindi Khabar reads, "BSP government may be formed in UP: 'Hindi Khabar' quick survey."

According to the quick survey, BSP emerged as the number one party with 175 to 185 seats, while BJP was the second. According to the survey, BJP could win 104 to 114 seats, while Congress could get 8-10 seats and others 10-12 seats.

For further clarification, NewsMeter contacted Hindi Khabar who confirmed that the viral claim is false and that the survey is from 2016. No survey has been conducted by them recently.

Thus, it is clear that the claim is false.
