HYDERABAD: A post claiming that Pinarayi Vijayan has been voted the best Chief Minister in the country is circulating on WhatsApp.

Users quote survey conducted by India Today, "There is not a single BJP chief minister on the list and Congress is not in the picture. Pinarayi Vijayan is the best CM in the country, says India Today survey," the post said.

FACT CHECK:

India Today conducted a survey titled, "Mood of the Nation Poll", an extensive country-wide survey that aims to gauge the nation's mood. It is a bi-annual nationwide survey conducted by the India Today Group. "This survey has been chronicling changing national narratives on politics, economics, society, sports, cinema, and foreign affairs."

A part of the survey focused on the evaluation of various Chief Ministers. The survey was divided into two categories: 'Most Popular Chief Minister across India' and 'Most Popular Chief Minister in Home State'.

Under the category of 'Most Popular Chief Minister across India', respondents across states were asked to rate who they thought to be the best performing Chief Minister in the country. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath won first place. He was followed by Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, M.K. Stalin, Uddhav Thackeray, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naveen Patnaik, and Nitish Kumar.

Under the category of 'Most Popular Chief Minister in Home State', respondents in every state were asked to rate their own Chief Minister. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was named the best Chief Minister. He was followed by Mamata Banerjee, M.K. Stalin, Uddhav Thackeray, Pinarayi Vijayan, Arvind Kejriwal, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Bhupesh Baghel, and Ashok Gehlot.

Pinarayi Vijayan was at fifth position.

Nearly 71% of respondents from Odisha said they were satisfied with Naveen Patnaik, while only 61.1% of respondents from Kerala said they were satisfied with Pinarayi Vijayan.

Evidently, it is clear that the claim of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan being voted the best Chief Minister in the country according to the recent survey by India Today is false.
