FACT CHECK:
The news of Lata Mangeshkar passing away is true.
Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last at 8: 12 am on 6 February. Mangeshkar who was 92, was taken to the ICU on 8 January after testing positive for Covid-19. She was cremated with full state honors at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. Two days of national mourning are to be observed.
As the news of her death became public, tributes began pouring in. Amongst the many tributes and visits, Sachin Tendulkar paid his last respects to the legendary singer. Tendulkar arrived at the Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai, where Mangeshkar took her last breath. Tendulkar had also posted a tribute message to her on Instagram.
However, this post was incorrectly flagged as "false news" by Instagram and was wrongly linked to an old article. The article tagged in Tendulkar's post, the one titled, "Don't believe the fake news of the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar" was published by media organization NewsMobile is from 2019 and not 2022.
In 2019, News Mobile had fact-checked viral posts that claimed Lata Mangeshkar had passed away. It confirmed that in 2019 after Mangeshkar was hospitalized at Mumbai's Breach Candy, she was stable. It proved that Lata Mangeshkar was alive and recovering. News Mobile fact-checked a similar false claim in January 2022 as well and said that Mangeshkar was alive and recovering.
These reports are true as Lata Mangeshkar had only passed away recently.
The media organization has also updated its previous fact checks by writing, "Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after testing positive for Covid-19 in January 2022 and was also later diagnosed with pneumonia."
Clearly, Instagram had wrongly tagged Sachin Tendulkar's post as false by attributing a two-year-old article.
