Lockdown extended in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Video clips of 4tv and News24 claiming that Telangana Chief Minister KCR has extended lockdown till May 29, is viral on social media.

These videos are spreading misinformation. Currently, no such announcement on the extension has been made.

FACT CHECK:

Firstly, NewsMeter checked the YouTube accounts of 4tv and News24 and found that the viral videos are not recent. These videos are from May 2020 and refer to the extension of lockdown last year.

In 2020, the lockdown from 14th April was extended to 30th April and then to 7th May. The Government of India then issued orders to extend the nationwide lockdown till 17th May with certain relaxations for different districts. In view of the continued need for measures to prevent the spread of COVID 19 in Telangana, the government extended the lockdown till 29th May 2020. (Read G.0 64 here). These viral videos are from May 2020.

Secondly, NewsMeter also searched online for news reports to check if any announcement on the extension was made but found none. Currently, the lockdown date in the state is from 12.5.2021 to 22.5.2021. (Read G.O. 102 here). No order has been issued for the extension.

Evidently, the viral claims are false. The videos are from 2020 and no order for the extension has been issued so far.
