Hyderabad: The SIR (Special Intensive Revision) of the electoral lists by the Election Commission has been in controversy ever since its announcement.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal claims the exercise is being used to delete legitimate voters, particularly those from minority communities.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of attempting to politically destabilise West Bengal through this process ahead of the Assembly elections.
In this context, a video of an alleged Muslim man is being shared on social media. The man could be heard saying, “I am from superpower Bangladesh. I am living in Kolkata, and I fully support Mamta Banerjee. We Bangladeshi, will rule in West Bengal soon. Remember my words.”
Sharing the video with sarcasm targeted towards Muslims, an X user wrote, “See the audacity of this ‘peaceful person’.” (Archive)
NewsMeter found the claim to be false, as the video is AI-generated.
Red flags in the video
Although not impossible, it is improbable to find a half-dressed man on the street speaking fluent English. Since the view is only focused on him, not much of the environment can be seen to determine if the location is real or artificially generated.
However, the crucial giveaway is the ‘Sora’ watermark at the top right corner. Sora is OpenAI’s AI model that creates realistic videos from text descriptions, which confirms that the video is AI-generated.
Analysis using AI-detection tools
For further confirmation, we analysed the video using an AI-detection tool, Hive Moderation, which determined that the video is likely AI-generated with a confidence score of 99.9 per cent.
Therefore, we conclude that the video is AI-generated.
