Fact: The claim is false. The video shows a man-eating tiger killed by forest guards in the Ramnagar division of Uttarakhand.

Hyderabad: Recently, incidents such as the theft of a 60-foot-long bridge and reports of stolen train engines in Bihar have captured national attention.

A video of two men and a tiger riding an elephant has gone viral with the claim that the incredible sight was also captured in Bihar.

An X user shared the video and wrote, ā€œThis is Bihar, Babu! Here they apply turmeric even to flying birds! Such amazing sights can be seen only in Bihar. (translated from Hindi)ā€ (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The video is from Uttarakhand.

A keyword search led us to a similar video titled ā€˜Maneater of Sunderkahlā€™ published on YouTube on January 15, 2012. According to the description, the tiger in the video killed six people and terrorised the villagers. We found the exact video starting 10 seconds into the video.

Using this information, we also found a report from India Today titled, ā€˜Corbett: Forest guards gun down man-eater tigerā€™ dated January 28, 2011.

As per the report, In Uttarakhandā€™s Ramnagar division, forest officials have killed a male tiger from Corbett National Park that was allegedly responsible for six human fatalities.

Another report from Hindustan Times titled 'Tiger killed in Corbett' dated January 27, 2011, also reported the same details.




The report said that the forest officials shot a male tiger in the Ramnagar forest division following protests by villagers from Sunderkhal near Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). The big cat was accused of killing a 27-year-old man. We found a similar report published in The Times of India.

Therefore, the claim that the video shows a casual interaction with a tiger in Bihar is false. The video actually shows an incident from Uttarakhand in 2011 involving the killing of a man-eating tiger.
