Amid the Israel-Hamas war, an image of actor Gal Gadot holding a signboard that reads “Zionism is the new Nazism” is going viral on social media.
Several social media users have shared the image, suggesting that the actor supports Palestine's cause in the ongoing war.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the image is morphed. The original image from 2018 shows Gadot carrying a board that reads “#WeRemember” on Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Upon a reverse image search, we found the original image carried by Jewish News in a 2018 report titled “Gal Gadot attacked for Holocaust Memorial Day tweet.” It said that the actress was attacked on social media by Pro-Palestinian supporters for paying tribute to victims of the Shoah on Holocaust Memorial Day.
The report also carried Gadot's tweet from 2018, which showed the original signboard reading “#WeRemember”.
Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day. “A day to honor the Holocaust Victims. May we never forget. #WeRemember,” reads the post caption.
Here is the comparison of the morphed and original images.
On October 8, a day after Hamas’s brutal attack on the Israeli civilians, Gadot, in an Instagram post, said that she stands with Israel and asked others to do so too.
According to a report by Fox11 Los Angeles, the actor hosted a screening of the unedited footage of Hamas attacks on southern Israel at the Museum of Tolerance in the United States. It also mentioned that a fight broke out reportedly between pro-Israel and pro-Palestine supporters.
Hence, we conclude that the viral image which shows Gal Gadot holding a signboard that compares Zionism with Nazism is morphed.
