Fact Check: Morphed photo claims Sara Tendulkar dating Shubman Gill

Hyderabad: An image of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter Sara Tendulkar with cricketer Shubman Gill is viral on social media, claiming that they have confirmed their relationship.

An X user shared the image with the caption, “Sara Tendulkar confirmed that She is dating Shubman Gill.”

A Facebook user also shared the image with the caption, “Love Bird #ShubhmanGill #SaraTendulkar.”

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the image is morphed. The original photo shows Sara with her brother, Arjun Tendulkar.

We skimmed through the social media accounts of Sara and Gill but did not find the viral photo. However, we found an identical photo on Sara’s Instagram account, featuring her with her brother Arjun. It is the fifth photo in the carousel of photos showcasing their shared memories over the years as siblings.

The photo was posted on September 24, Arjun’s birthday. “Baby bro turns 24 on the 24th!!! Happiest birthday Your sister has always got your back, (sic)” read the caption.

We also searched whether Sara and Gill have confirmed dating each other or ever found to be in a relationship but did not find any such news report. Their relationship would have been widely reported by the media had they confirmed it.

Hence, we conclude that the photo of Sara with Gill is morphed and the claim that they confirmed their relationship is false.
