Fact Check
NewsMeter performed a reverse image and found four photos of PM Modi meeting his mother. One of the photos is identical to the viral photo but does not show Jashodaben sitting beside Mr. Modi's mother.
On 4 December, NDTV had tweeted the photo of Mr. Modi meeting his mother and said ahead of phase 2 of the Gujarat Assembly elections, the PM sought blessings from his mother Heeraben Modi at her residence in Gandhinagar.
We have highlighted the similarities between the original and the morphed image:
On 4 December, ANI had tweeted a video of Mr. Modi meeting his mother. It also said that Mr. Modi met his mother Heeraben Modi at her residence in Gandhinagar. We did not see Jashodaben in this video, too.
Finally, we noticed the social media handle "Deep4IND" on the morphed photo that is being shared on social media. We searched for the handle on Instagram and found the morphed photo posted by the user Deepak Shukla on 4 December. According to the bio, Deepak Shukla is a digital creator of sarcasm and satire.
We conclude that the viral photo showing PM Modi with his mother and estranged wife is morphed. Hence, the claim that PM Modi met Jashodaben during his recent visit to Gujarat is false.
