MS Dhoni has not been arrested, viral claims are false

A tweet claiming cricket legend MS Dhoni has been arrested is viral on social media.

The caption reads: ā€œBreaking news: MS Dhoni has been arrested from Chepauk Stadium last night in fixing, and Amrapali Scam.ā€

Was Dhoni really arrested? Letā€™s find out.

Fact check

NewsMeter found the claim to be false.

We started our investigation by performing a keyword search on the web with relevant keywords but could not find any credible media report about MS Dhoni being arrested from Chepauk Stadium.

Moreover, we also scanned the Twitter handle of the user @Naeem who posted it originally and found that itā€™s a parody account for cricket fans. Which clearly indicates that it is made-up fake news.

How is MS Dhoni related to the Amarpali Scam?

According to a 2019 report on India Today, the Amrapali Group has been accused of committing fraud by siphoning money paid by tens of thousands of home buyers and of cheating by not completing housing projects for which the developer had accepted payments.

ā€œAccording to an audit report submitted in the Supreme Court, MS Dhoni is involved in the Amrapali controversy through Rhiti Sports. The audit report claims that between 2009 and 2015, the Amrapali Group paid a total of Rs 42.22 crore to Rhiti Sports. Of this sum, Rs 6.52 crore was paid by Amrapali Sapphire Developers.ā€

Hence it is evident that no arrest has been done. The claim is false.
