Hyderabad: A video circulating on social media shows two women working in what appears to be a kitchen. While the first woman prepares a beverage in a glass and leaves, the second woman pours a liquid into the glass.
Social media users claim that a house help named Farida Khatoon was caught mixing urine into the juice of her Hindu employer, who is reportedly a Samajwadi Party leader, and the video is proof of it. Adding a communal angle to the incident, the users allege that Muslims consider non-Muslims as ākafirsā and caution against hiring house assistants from the community.
An X handle, Frontal Force, caught several times peddling misinformation, shared the video with the caption, āHousemaid Farida Khatoon caught on camera when she was mixing her urine in juice before serving Hindu house owner. The house owner is being called a Samajwadi Party Leader. Trust me, you are just Kafir for them so choose your maid, servant, worker & assistant carefully. (sic)ā (Archive)
NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading. The video is neither from a Samajwadi Party leaderās home nor from India.
Through a reverse image search of the videoās keyframe, we found the video mentioned in a report by the verified YouTube channel, Oneindia News, titled āMaid caught mixing urine into her bossās juiceā. It was published on April 28, 2016.
According to the channel, the video shows a young house help working in a Kuwaiti household, who was caught on camera adding her urine into the familyās orange juice just before serving it for breakfast.
Taking this cue, we conducted a keyword search in Arabic and found the video published on YouTube and Facebook in April-May 2016. A report from April 2016 by Saudi Arabia-based Akhbaar24 included a screengrab from the video, stating that the incident was captured by a camera installed in a home and later aired on a Kuwaiti talk show.
The footage, featured on the Diwan Al-Mulla program on the Al-Shahid channel, showed a woman preparing a ācup of juice,ā while another urinated into a separate cup and added it to the juice. Another report by Arabi21 from 2016 stated that the incident occurred in Kuwait.
English reports from Mirror and Telegrafi in 2016 also stated that the video was recorded in Kuwait.
According to Telegrafi, the family had long suspected their house help of adulterating their drinks, so they decided to install cameras in the kitchen. The security footage captured the two employees going about their daily tasks, with one of them seen mixing urine into a drink.
Therefore, we conclude that the video is not from India and the claim is misleading.
