Hyderabad: Against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, a video has gone viral claiming to show King Charles III unveiling a poster calling for the arrest of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for being a ‘terrorist’.

An X user shared the video with a caption in Hindi, stating, “Europe declared Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu an international terrorist. A huge poster on this was unveiled yesterday. Make it viral worldwide.” (Archive)

Similar posts spreading the video can be found here (Archive) and here. Posts shared here and here show the viral poster without any mention of King Charles III.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The viral video is digitally altered.

Through a reverse image search, we found the original video posted by Associated Press on May 15, 2024, titled, ‘King Charles III unveils his first official portrait since his coronation.’

In this original footage, King Charles can be seen unveiling a traditional portrait of himself in the uniform of the Welsh Guards at Buckingham Palace in London, not a poster calling for Netanyahu’s arrest.

A further keyword search led us to a BBC News report titled ‘King Charles: First official portrait since coronation is unveiled, painted by Jonathan Yeo,’ published on May 14, 2024.

The report stated that the large oil painting shows a larger-than-life King Charles in the uniform of the Welsh Guards. This vibrant red artwork, measuring approximately 8 feet 6 inches by 6 feet 6 inches, was created by Jonathan Yeo, who also painted portraits of notable figures such as Tony Blair, Sir David Attenborough and Malala Yousafzai.

News agencies such as Evening Standard and Time reported the same event with video coverage in May 2024.

Hence, the claim that King Charles III unveiled a poster labelling Israeli PM Netanyahu as a ‘terrorist’ and calling for his arrest is entirely false. The original footage shows King Charles unveiling a traditional portrait of himself in the uniform of the Welsh Guards at Buckingham Palace.
