The upsurge in COVID-19 cases has sent shock waves across the length and breadth of the country. Lockdown has been reimposed in many parts of the country to prevent the spread of infection.

A video of KCR with the logo of A18 News.com is in circulation with the claim that he has announced the closure of educational institutions in 2021. In the video, CM can be seen announcing shut down of all educational institutions like schools and colleges and postponement of all the exams.

It is viral on WhatsApp fueling fears about the new lockdown.

Fact Check:

The claim is false.

When searched the keyframes, we found that the video dates back to March 2020.

This video was uploaded by several media organizations and streamed live on March 14, 2020, when COIVD-19 cases were on the rise. Telangana government had announced shutting down educational institutions, Malls, Cinema halls, and also public gatherings.


Director of Digital media, Government of Telangana, also rubbished any such announcement made by KCR. In his tweet, he clarified that the video is from March 2020.

"#FakeNewsAlert. An old clip of CM Sri KCR announcing lockdown is being spread on Social Media by some miscreants. Please note that this clip is from March 2020"

A18 Telangana news.com whose logo can be seen in the video, also clarified that it is NOT recent and from March 2020.

The video went viral especially on WhatsApp groups due to which many citizens called up A18 Telangana News Office to verify its authenticity.
