No `Mixed Cap for best all-rounder in IPL, viral claims are false

A post claiming BCCI has announced a new 'Mixed Cap' for the best all-rounder of the IPL is viral on social media.

Netizens claim that the third cap will be half orange and half purple, a mix of the first top caps Orange and Purple - given to the leading run-scorer and bowler with most wickets, respectively.

FACT CHECK:

NewsMeter searched online for news reports on this announcement but found none that supported the claim. The fact check team also searched through the news and announcements sections on the official websites of both the BCCI and IPL but found no such announcement being made. The last announcement on both sites was made on March 29 regarding the invitation to tender for media rights to the IPL seasons 2023-2027. No updates were posted on the Mixed Cap.

The team also checked the social media handles of BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Sourav Ganguly but couldn't find any announcement on the Mixed Cap.

It is highly unlikely that this news would have been missed out if indeed the board had decided on a new cap.

Hence, there is no evidence to prove that the BCCI has announced a third "Mixed Cap" to honor the best all-rounder of the tournament.

Thus, the claim is false.
