HYDERABAD: A picture of a man in a green turban is being shared on social media as a Muslim man, named Nazeer Mohd, who disguised himself as a Sikh farmer in the ongoing farmers' Delhi Chalo' march.

Many social media users including Shalabh Mani Tripathi, the information advisor to UP CM Yogi Adityanath, tweeted the photo.

FACT CHECK:

NewsMeter found that the claim of a Muslim man disguising himself as a Sikh during the protests is false.

We looked at Nazeer Mohammed's Facebook profile and found that the viral image was uploaded on 8 April 2020. The farmers Bill was passed in September and only since then have the protests started, this proves that the image is unrelated.

We also found a Punjabi news channel that posted a video on Facebook of its coverage on the incident where people in Nazeer's village confirmed that he was not part of the protest.

Nazeer also told BOOM that while he supported the farmer's protest, he had not physically joined them. He has also filed a complaint with the local police authorities which has been signed by all other villagers as a show of support to him.

Evidently, it is clear that the claim is false as the image was posted several months before protests began.
