No, there are no names written on the Statue of Unity; edited image goes viral

An Instagram post with an image of 'Statue of Unity' is being shared on social media with a funny claim. In the viral image, one can see two names Rajesh and Pinki written on the statue.

The Instagram post caption reads, 'Kon hai ye log … kahaa se aate hai (Who are these people?)'.

But, are the names actually written on the statue? Let's find out.

Fact Check

NewsMeter first ran a keyword search to find if it is possible for visitors to reach till the face height of the statue. The search led us to a report by NDTV that says, 'A visitor can take a lift installed inside the statue which runs at a speed of 4 metres per second to reach a viewers' gallery, close to the chest of the statue, at a height of 135 metres.'

Which confirms nobody can reach till the face manually.

Statue of Unity is a national heritage, any action like this would get covered by media organisations. We ran multiple keyword searches but found no media reports on such incidents.

Lastly, we ruled out some recent images of the Statue of Unity and found it to be clean and standing tall as ever.

it is evident that the viral image is an edited one.

The claim stands false.
