Hyderabad: An advertisement promising overnight weight loss solutions is doing the rounds on social media.
The viral post claims that just by applying the product āBellyoff Belly Patches,ā you can get rid of those extra pounds in just a month. And the magic happens by sticking the patch at any spot where you want to see a difference.
Achieving your desired healthy weight isnāt about a ādietā or a āprogrammeā but a lifestyle with healthy eating patterns, regular physical activity, and stress management.
So, are these belly patches a boon for people looking for quick weight loss solutions?
Letās find out.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the claim is false.
Healthline has refuted the effectiveness of belly patches. āBecause dietary supplements donāt have to meet the same standards for effectiveness that OTC and prescription medications do, the evidence isnāt there to prove weight loss patches induce weight loss,ā it said.
It further added, āAny studies conducted by the product manufacturers are typically small and do not meet the usual standards for scientific research. Some of these weight loss patches may have a minimal impact on weight loss, but there may be side effects that overwhelm that minimal impact.ā
In an article, the Federal Trade Commission reported, āIn two separate federal court actions, the FTC charged that the patch manufacturer, Transdermal Products International Marketing Corporation, and the retailer, SG Institute of Health & Education, Inc., falsely claimed that the skin patch causes substantial weight loss.ā
We need to understand that just like gaining weight was not an overnight batting, losing weight will also go the same way. Instead of looking out for quick solutions, we should always strive to look for long term and healthy solutions.
