FactCheck:
NewsMeter found the claim to be false.
We conducted a Google keyword search using keywords like "Nothing Phone" and "South India", we found an article by Indian Express titled 'DearNothing' controversy: Why Nothing's South Indian fanbase is unhappy,' which was published on July 13th, 2022.
According to the article, the hashtag "#DearNothing" gained popularity right after the release of a new video by the YouTube channel "Prasadtechintelugu" on the evening of the phone (1) launch ceremony. The video shows the creator on-screen unboxing a Nothing phone (1) box, which turns out to be an empty box with a letter inside.
"Hi Prasad, this device is not for South Indian people," the letter reads. "Thank you," with a font that attempts to resemble the dotted font used on Nothing's promotional materials.
The video was created in response to the lack of Nothing phone (1) review units available to regional content creators in India.
We found a Youtube video by Telugu tech-based Youtuber 'Prasadtechintelugu', which has now been made private.
A few seconds into the video, the YouTuber reads a letter by saying, "Hi Prasad, this device is not for South Indian people. Thank you".
We checked the comment section for the authenticity of this letter and discovered that the Youtuber Prasadtechintelugu had pinned a comment with a disclaimer "Please Note - 0:24 the screenshot is for representation purpose and not an original communication from Nothing team."

We also found a tweet by Nothing India General Manager Manu Sharma, he attached a letter addressing the issue. He mentioned that in the YouTube video the fake letter was "misinterpreted by many as an official communication" from the company.
