Hyderabad: After the successful landing of the Indian Space Research Organisationā€™s (ISRO) Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface, a video claiming to show the landing of the spacecraft on the moonā€™s surface is viral on social media.

Users claim that the video shows footage of the Chandrayaan-3 landing as captured by the USAā€™s National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

An X blue tick user shared the video with the caption, ā€œNow see Nasaā€™s actual pictures of chandrayan 3 landing taken by their (DSN) deep space network. (sic)ā€

The video is being widely shared by multiple users on X and Facebook.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video has no links to Chandrayaan-3 and has been on the Internet since June 2021.

On performing a reverse image search of the videoā€™s keyframe, we found it published by a YouTube channel named Hazegrayart on July 20, 2023, titled ā€˜Apollo 11 Moon Landing.ā€™


We also found the extended version of the video published by the channel on June 8, 2021, titled ā€œThe Apollo 11 Moon Landing: A Historic Moment in Space Exploration.ā€ The viral clip in this video appears around the 0.42-second mark.


In the comment section, we noticed several users appreciating the animation skills of Hazegreyart, which suggests that the video could be digitally created.


NewsMeter has reached out to Hazegreyart for more details about the video. The story will be updated as and when they reply.

The video has been on the Internet since June 2021. Hence, we can safely conclude that it does not show NASAā€™s footage of Chandrayaan-3 landing on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023.
