Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video is not linked to the recent Income Tax survey at the BBC office. The video dates back to 15 August 2021.

We ran a keyword search and found an extended version of the video published by South Asia Solidarity Group’s YouTube channel. According to the description, on 15 August 2021, members of the South Asia Solidarity Group dropped a huge banner that read “Resign Modi” from London’s iconic Westminster Bridge.

We also found the still from the video in a report by The Hindu titled “Diaspora group protests in London, seeks PM Modi’s resignation.” It said South Asia Solidarity, an Indian diaspora organisation, on 15 August 2021, took out a protest on Westminster Bridge in London, demanding Mr. Modi’s resignation. The group alleged that the current Indian government had normalised violence against religious minorities and the Dalits.

The Caravan and Scroll.in had also reported the protest in London. Both reports carry the same anti-Modi banner dropped on London’s iconic Westminster Bridge.

It is evident that the video dates back to 15 August 2021 and is not linked to the recent IT survey at BBC offices in India. Hence, we conclude that the claim is false.
