An image showing floodwater gushing through the roads with people looking by is viral on social media. Users claim that it shows the cloudburst in the Kishtwar district of Jammu Kashmir.
The claim is FALSE.
When we searched for the viral image using Google reverse image search, we found that this picture was taken in Uttarakhand in 2016. The same viral picture was shared in the news reports of several news media reports published in July 2016.
According to reports, a cloudburst hit the Singhali area near Pithoragarh flattening homes in over seven villages and leaving many residents trapped in the debris. More than 18 people died in this incident.
30 people were killed, as the Alakananda river was flowing above the danger mark.
The same image was tweeted by ANI on July 1, 2016, with the caption 'River Alaknanda rises above the danger level mark after a cloudburst in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand'
Hence, the claim that the viral image shows cloudburst in Kishtwar district is FALSE.
