Hyderabad: A video of the Nirmala Sitharaman meeting an old man in a modest house is being shared with the claim that it shows the finance minister meeting her father.
Several Facebook users shared the video claiming that it shows the modest background of the minister.

NewsMeter found that the old man in the video is not the father of Nirmala Sitharaman. He is K. V. Krishnan, the great-nephew of Subramania Bharathiyar, a revolutionary Tamil poet from the colonial era
On performing a reverse image search, we found the same video posted on 4 December 2022 on the official Instagram account of Nirmala Sitharaman. According to the caption, the minister had met 96-year-old K. V. Krishnan, the great-nephew of MahakaviBharathiyar, on her visit to Siva Madam in Varanasi. She had also described the meeting as the Sangam (confluence) of Kashi and Tamil.
The office of Nirmala Sitharaman also tweeted the images and video of the visit to Siva Madam on 3 December 2022. It said that the minister had interacted with the family members of MahakaviBharathiyar, including his 96-year-old great nephew Shri K. V. Krishnan.
Finally, we searched for the father of Nirmala Sitharamanon on the government's website. Her father's name is Narayanan Sitharaman.
The viral video shows the Finance Minister meeting 96-year-old K. V. Krishnan, not her father. Hence, we conclude that the claim is false.
