HYDERABAD: A video of a huge crowd protesting on a road is circulating on social media.
Users link it to the ongoing hijab row in Karnataka.
"Well done my eternal children. Looking at the children of Karnataka, now it seems that the new plant is more powerful for the protection of Sanatan. We are more conscious. We should not stop the children from protecting religion. In fact, we should inspire them (sic)," reads the description.
FACT CHECK:
NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found similar visuals in a tweet carried by The Times of India and The Indian Express from August 2017. The tweet by TOI states that the picture of the crowd was taken during a 2017 morcha in Mumbai on the JJ Flyover.
Below are visuals from the reports and viral videos. Notice the similarities.
In 2017, a large protest took place in Mumbai by the Maratha community. Lakhs of people protested on the streets and demanded reservation in jobs and education for the Maratha community among other demands. (Source: Financial Express) ABP News, TV 5, and other media organizations carried similar visuals and reported the same.
"According to reports, nearly 5-8 lakh members of the politically powerful community are participating in the mammoth 'mook morcha' (silent procession) to demand reservations in jobs and education," ABP said.
Evidently, an old video from Mumbai was falsely linked to the ongoing hijab row.
