As India is set to host G20 summit 2023, the government is renovating and resurfacing the streets in Delhi. Several social media users have accused the Modi govt of displacement and snatching the livelihood of the poor in the name makeover.

Several social media users have shared pictures criticizing govt of hiding their failures.

An X user has shared a picture of a renovated wall with G20 banners with the caption ‘AMRIT KAAL that we have to Hide the Clusters in New Delhi so that no one get to Know What BJP has done in so many years in MCD’.



Fact Check

NewsMeter investigation revealed that the viral picture is old and from Mumbai not Delhi.

We conducted a reverse image search on the viral image and found several reports carrying the same picture. A Hindustan Times report dated May 6, 2023 clarified that the picture is from Jogeshwari slums on Western Express Highway in Mumbai.

Another report by Deccan Herald also revealed that the image is from Jogwshwari slums in Mumbai ahead of G20 summit. The report was published on June 7, 2023.

Hence, we conclude that the image shared as renovation in Delhi ahead of G20 summit 2023 is old and from Mumbai.
