HYDERABAD: A picture of trash littered on an open ground is being shared on social media. Users claim that the trash was left behind by participants of the Glastonbury music festival held in England last week.

Netizens claim that the picture was taken on 25 June after Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg had delivered a speech at the music festival.

The photo is being shared with the text, "Pyramid stage at Glastonbury after Greta Thunberg's environmental speech."

FACT CHECK:

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found it published by Daily Mail on 29 June 2015. The picture was taken during the 2015 Glastonbury music festival. The report states that over 1,650 tonnes of waste and 5,000 abandoned tents were left behind at the music festival. A litter picking crew of 800 volunteers helped pick up the detritus leftover from the long weekend.

Similar images of the 2015 music festival held at the Worthy Farm were also found on photo stock websites Getty Images and Alamy. The pictures show revelers in front of the Pyramid Stage surrounded by discarded litter at the Festival of Music and Performing Arts on Worthy Farm near the village of Pilton in Somerset, southwest England, on June 29, 2015.

According to The Guardian and The Independent, the 1,650 tonnes of waste included 5,000 abandoned tents, 6,500 sleeping bags, 400 gazebos, 54 tonnes of cans and plastic bottles, 41 tonnes of cardboard, 66 tonnes of scrap metal, 3,500 airbeds, 2,200 chairs, and 950 rolled mats.

A 2015 picture from the Glastonbury music festival is being falsely shared as a picture from the recently held event.
