Hyderabad: A picture of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath doing Yoga in the lotus pose is viral on social media.


In the picture, he can be seen doing yoga in a T-shirt. Users claim that this picture was clicked on 2021 Yoga Day.

NewsMeter performed a Google Reverse Image Search and found a report by the catch news published on June 21, 2018.

According to the report, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, various programmes are being organized across the country. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Lieutenant Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma performed yoga in Lucknow. This year CM Yogi Adityanath appeared in a special way. CM Yogi did yoga not in saffron kurta but in a saffron-colored t-shirt.

The video was also aired by ABP live on June 21, 2018. The description of the video on the website of ABP live stated: "Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Ram Naik, and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh performed Yoga in Lucknow during early morning hours".

NewsMeter also found a tweet which was shared by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on June 21, 2018, on his official Twitter handle.

"By regular practice of yoga activities, the body becomes healthy and life remains balanced, the tradition from Lord Shiva was carried forward by the sages and the importance it has increased in the world today, is a gift to all of us by our respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi," he tweeted.

These pictures were also shared by the official account CMO UP on the same day.

Evidently, the viral claim is False. Viral picture of Uttar Pradesh's chief minister is not from 2021 but 2018.
