Hyderabad: A picture of a huge crowd jostling to fill water from a tanker is going viral on social media. Users try to prove the point that there is an acute water shortage in Delhi


The picture was shared by many political leaders including Vijal Goel and Harsh Sanghavi on Twitter.


This viral picture was also shared by Virender Babbar, BJP Delhi spokesperson on Facebook.

Fact Check

The picture being shared is Old.

We firstly found a tweet that was shared by ANI on June 20, 2021. According to the tweet, locals at Sangam Vihar in Delhi are facing water scarcity.

We then found the tweet replies of the Aam Aadmi Party Delhi and Delhi Jal board to Vijay Goal's tweet stating that the picture dates back to 2009.


The image is of Sanjay colony dates back to 2009 when Sheila Dixit was the chief minister and not Arvind Kejriwal.

Vice Chairperson of Delhi Jal board Raghav Chadha had also tweeted stating that the picture is 12 year old.

NewsMeter then performed a Google Reverse Image Search and found the report by `alamy 'that had the same viral picture and was published on June 30, 2009.

Evidently, the claim being shared on social media is misleading. The picture being shared dates back to 2009.
