Old video shared as recent snowfall in Kashmir

A snowfall video is viral on social media with users claiming that the video is from the recent snowfall in Kashmir.

An X user shared the video with the caption ‘Fresh Snowfall at Daksum Kokernag’.

Several Facebook users have also shared the same video claiming that the video is from the recent snowfall in Kashmir.

NewsMeter found the video old.

We first conducted a reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video but could not find anything.

Then we search on Facebook with the keywords ‘Fresh snowfall in Kashmir' and came across several snowfall videos.

We found a screenshot of the same video uploaded by a user with a ‘fake’ tag on the image captioning ‘Fake news about fresh snowfall in Daksum Kokernag circulated by some Facebook pages. It's requested everyone not to circulate this video, no fresh snowfall reported so far in Daksum Kokernag. The video is old, which is viral on social media’.

Another Facebook user also shared the same image with the same caption.

During the search, we came across a clarification by a user stating that this video was uploaded by him in May this year showcasing the epic snowfall.

He cautions people sharing this as recent snowfall as this could cause confusion and potentially spread false information.

Hence we conclude that the snowfall video is actually old not from this season.
