Hyderabad: After three devastating earthquakes hit Turkey killing thousands, social media is flooded with images and videos with several misleading claims.
Now, a video of a massive wave hitting a beach while people run screaming is circulating with the claim that it shows a tsunami and earthquake in Turkey.

Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the video has been online since 2017 and shows a mini tsunami at a beach in Durban, South Africa.
On performing a reverse image search of the videoās keyframe, we found it published by a YouTube Channel, Connect News SA, on 13 March 2017. The video is titled āDurban hit by mini tsunami.ā
We also found a still of the video in an article published by The Citizen on 12 March 2017. It said a mini tsunami had battered the beachfront along Durbanās North Beach, which forced the authorities to close the beach.
Mirror UK had also reported about the Durban mini tsunami with similar details in an article published on 14 March 2017.
Turkeyās Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency or AFAD, in a tweet, said there was no tsunami danger on its eastern Mediterranean coast after the earthquake on Monday.
It is evident that the viral video has been on the internet since 2017 and does not show an earthquake or tsunami in Turkey. Hence, we conclude that the claim is false.
