Hyderabad: A video showing strong winds and torrential rain sweeping away chairs is going viral. Social media users have linked the video to Cyclone Biparjoy. A Twitter user shared the video with the caption, “Gujarat and neighbouring states are facing Cyclone Biparjoy from 13th-16th...there has been very strong wind blowing at over 150km/h causing mass destruction of properties and buildings. The condition is dire but I’m safe and we hope things will get back to normal. (sic)”

Fact Check

On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we came across a Times Now report from May 6, 2022, which carried a still from the video. As per the report, the viral video shows chairs, tables and utensils from a canteen flying through the air amidst rainfall near Hubbali Airport in Karnataka.

A News18 report said on May 5, 2022, Karnataka was greeted by heavy rains and gusty winds. A canteen near Hubballi Airport had a hard time as the wind swept away chairs, tables, and the crockery of the canteen.

The Logical Indian also published the video on May 6, 2022, titled “Strong Wind Causes Chairs, Tables To Fly At Hubballi Airport Canteen.”

Hence, we conclude that the viral video dates to 2022 and is being falsely linked to Cyclone Biparjoy.
