Fact Check: Old video from Lahore falsely shared as Pakistan cricket team dining in India
The video dates to 2020 and reportedly shows Lahore’s Bar Election dinner.

Hyderabad: Ever since the Pakistan cricket team came to India to play in the World Cup 2023, social media has been rife with several misleading claims. A video showing chaos at a buffet at a hotel is circulating on social media, with users claiming that it shows Pakistan’s team dinner after arrival in India.
An X user shared the video with the caption, “Pakistani cricket team arrived in India today and that’s how they had dinner. (sic)”

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The video dates to 2020 and reportedly shows Lahore’s Bar Election dinner.
Upon a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found it on X, posted on October 3 2020, with the caption, “That’s Lahore’s Bar Election Dinner! How elegant.”
Another X user, Usman Raza Jamil, who identified himself as a lawyer, posted the video on October 1, 2020.
Taking a dig at fellow lawyers, he wrote, “Lahore bar election gathering zindabad.. let’s slap each other to get first dibs on the meat – let’s keep our facemasks off whilst we push and shove and let’s show the next generation of lawyers what lies ahead for their time.. (sic)”
We also found several Facebook accounts that shared the video in October 2020 with the caption, “Corona Free, Lahore Bar Elections.” Click here and here to view the posts.
NewsMeter could not independently verify the video's origin. However, since the video has been on the Internet since 2020, we conclude that the video does not show Pakistan’s team dinner in India after their arrival to play World Cup 2023.
