A drone footage showing earthquake aftermath is being circulated on social media with users claiming it to be from recent earthquake devastation in Morocco.

A verified X user has shared the drone footage with the caption ‘See how much destruction has been caused by the earthquake in Morocco. Disturbing Drone footage’.

The video has garnered more than 61K views on X.



Fact Check

NewsMeter investigation found that the video is old from Turkey not Morocco.

We conducted a reverse image search on a keyframe of the viral video and found several links carrying the same video.

In a post on public discussion platform reditt.com a user has shared the same video under the title ‘Drone footage of Hatay city in Turkey’. The video was shared 7 months ago.

Taking a cue from this we conducted a keyword search with related words and found the same video on a Facebook page captioned ‘Turkey’, dated February 10.

On searching more, we found the same aerial footage on dailymotion.com. The video was shared 7 months ago with an Arabic caption which roughly translates as ‘Türkiye earthquake: A drone documents the extent of the massive destruction that struck the city of Antioch’.



NewsMeter can thus conclude that the viral drone footage is from Turkey not Morocco earthquake.
