Hyderabad: A video of a horrifying plane crash is doing the rounds on social media. It is being claimed that this was the recent plane crash in Nepal, the worst air crash in three decades in the small Himalayan nation.

At least 68 people were killed on 15 January when a domestic flight of Yeti Airlines crashed in Pokhara, Nepal.

Many Twitter users, however, have pointed out that the video is not of the recent Nepal plane crash.

FACT CHECK

NewsMeter found that the viral video is old.

On performing a reverse image search on Yandex, we found a report by The Guardian from 1 May 2013 titled “747 cargo plane crashes at Bagram airbase.” It also contained an extended version of the viral clip.

The report read, “Footage purports to show the moment a Boeing 747 US cargo plane crashes on its ascent from Bagram airbase, Afghanistan on Monday. The crash has resulted in the death of all seven American crew members on board. The exact cause of the crash is unknown, although there were thunderstorms in the area. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.”

Moving further, we also found similar videos and media reports on CNN and CBS News that confirms that the video is of Boeing 747 US cargo plane crash in Bagram airbase, Afghanistan.

The actual clip of the recent Pokhara plane crash can be seen here.

It is evident that the viral video is not related to the recent Nepal plane crash. Hence, the claim is false.
