Hyderabad: Following heavy rains, many areas in Madhya Pradesh have been hit by floods. The flood has caused massive destruction and havoc in MP and rescue operations are being conducted to rescue stranded locals. Amidst this, a video of a rescue operation has gone viral on social media.
It is being claimed that the video is of a rescue operation in the Sheopur district of MP where the National Disaster Response Force rescued over hundreds of stranded locals.
The video shows a helicopter rescuing people standing on top of a vehicle.
Fact Check
NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found a similar video on Facebook from 2021. It was shared with the caption, "Anantapur: Air Force's rescue operation amid heavy floods Andhra Pradesh."
Taking the location as a keyword, we scanned YouTube for videos of the flood in Anantapur from November last year and found the same video on multiple YouTube channels. (Watch the video here and here)
We also found news reports about the floods. These reports prove that the viral video shows a rescue operation in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, last year.
According to a Hindu report, "An Indian Air Force helicopter from Yelahanka in Bengaluru rescued 10 persons stranded in the middle of Chitravathi river, at Veldurthy village in Chennekothapalli mandal of Anantapur district."
We also found a tweet by the Indian Air Force from 19 November 2021 that said, "Today, @IAF_MCC Mi-17 heptr evacuated ten people stuck in the rising waters of Chitravati river in Ananthapur district, Andhra Pradesh, in difficult weather conditions."
It is evident that the video is from a rescue operation in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, last year and not from Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh. Hence, the claim is misleading.
