Hyderabad: On January 30, a blast inside a mosque in Pakistan’s Peshawar killed at least 59 people and injured 157 others.

Following the incident, social media users are sharing a video of an explosion claiming that it shows the visuals of the recent blast in Peshawar.

Twitter users shared the video using the hashtags — #Peshawarblast #Peshawarunderattack #PeshawarAttack.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video shows a boiler blast that took place in 2021 in a beverage factory in Lahore, Pakistan.

On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found a longer version of the video published by the verified YouTube channel Cobrapost on 22 October 2021. As per the description, the video shows a boiler explosion in a beverage factory located at Multan Road in Lahore.

We also found the incident reported by Pakistan’s Daily Times in a report of 21 October 2021. It carries a still from the video. As per the report, a boiler explosion in a beverage factory on Lahore’s Multan Road claimed two lives.

Finally, we found that the incident was reported in Pakistan’s Saama TV bulletin on 21 October 2021. At around 2.43 minutes, the viral clip appears in the bulletin.

Thus, it is clear that the viral video dates back to 2021 and shows a boiler explosion in a beverage factory in Lahore. Hence, we conclude that the claim that the video shows the recent Peshawar blast is misleading.
