Fact Check

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search of the video's keyframe and found a tweet carrying an extended version of the same video in a report published by Scroll.in on 12 November 2021.

According to the report, the video shows the sea rising to the road after heavy rainfall at Marina Beach in Chennai.

We also found that the video was shared by several users on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter in 2021.

Further, we geolocated Marina Beach on Google Maps and found visuals similar to the viral video.

It is evident that the video has been on the Internet since November 2021. Hence, the claim that it shows the effect of Cyclone Mandous after it hit Chennai is misleading.
